Kelly Rowland Joins Empire Season 2

Empire's VIP guest list for season 2 keeps growing!
Kelly Rowland will appear on the hit FOX show this fall, a source told E! News exclusively on Saturday, the Fourth of July, at the 2015 Essence Festival in New Orleans. The 34-year-old R&B singer will play Lucious Lyon's mother in a flashback.
During season 1, Empire often featured scenes from Terrence Howard's character's past, which shows and his feisty now-ex-wife Cookie Lyon, played by Taraji P. Henson, during harder times before they built their powerful music empire.
Last month, Rowland hung out with Empire screenwriters, sparking speculation she may make an appearance on the show.

Kelly Rowland Talks Inspirational Women, Raising a Son

Kelly Rowland keeps pictures of inspiring, empowering women on her vision board. The likes of Diana Ross and Sade—who she channelled recently in a fierce photo shoot for Mane Addicts—appear next to women like Sybrina Fulton, the mother of Trayvon Martin.
“I think she’s so beautiful and inspiring,” Rowland said of Fulton on Saturday. TIME caught up with the former Destiny’s Child singer at the Samsung Galaxy Experience at the 2015 Essence Festival, where Rowland was able to tell Fulton how she felt about her in person.
In a short conversation between appearances, Rowland dished on what she’s got going on— juggling motherhood, her music, and preparing to judge aspiring singers on an upcoming BET reality show—but also got personal about raising a young black boy at a time when injustices facing men of color dominate the news. She and her husband Tim Witherspoon are already thinking about talking to their baby son, Titan, about how to interact with police.
“It’s a conversation that we have to have,” Rowland said. “We want to teach him to be responsible and to respect authority, but to always stand up for himself. He’s no punk.”
Rowland said, too, that more artists are starting to feel a sense of obligation to be outspoken about issues that impact the world around them—something she’s hoping to find in the artists she selects on her upcoming show.
“I would like to find a group that is very outspoken about issues and their opinions,” she said. Earlier Rowland noted: “It’s been awhile since we’ve had a really impactful girl group.”

For, despite sharing morsels of new music since 2009’s sophomore effort ‘Lady Love,’ the Destiny’s Child original has been balancing the recording of her third LP with an endless stream of TV work.And while the latter is still a focus (as evidenced by her current roles on ‘Single Ladies’ and HBO’s ‘Ballers’), the ‘Torn’ singer is gearing up to push ahead full-speed with the eagerly awaited album – which has a tentative title ‘Until Then…’Speaking to That Grape Juice at the 2015 BET Awards, Luckett described the project as “edgy R&B” and revealed that she’s getting ready to shoot the video for the set’s “first official single” – which judging by her wording isn’t recent effort ‘Don’t Make Me Wait (ft. T.I).’

Beyoncé used her impressive social media megaphone Wednesday to celebrate the Supreme Court’s establishment of same-sex marriage as a constitutional right, releasing a brief Instagram video to her 38 million-plus followers with the hash tag #LoveWins. Take that, dinky rainbow Facebook profile pics.
